





The Brant Funeral Service of Portsmouth was established in 1912 by Al Windel and later called Windel-Howland Funeral Home after C.M. Howland purchased interest in the firm. Jeffrey L. and Barbara Purdy Brant purchased the firm from James and Helen Purdy on October 26, 1976.
The Brant Funeral Service of Sciotoville was established in 1940 by Thomas J. and Jessie A. Gill. Mrs. Gill sold the firm to Jack and Roger Davis in November of 1972. They, in turn, sold to the Brants on January 22, 1977.
Barb and Jeff Brant are the owners of the Brant Funeral Service in Portsmouth and Sciotoville. Barb is a graduate of East High School and Ohio University, a retired school teacher from Wilson Elementary School after teaching for 30 years, and is a non-licensed funeral director. Jeff is a graduate of East High School, Rio Grande College, and the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science and was a 1st Lietenant in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. He has been a licensed funeral director and embalmer for 33 years. The Brants have owned the funeral homes for 31 years. Barb and Jeff have one daughter, Kristi, and a grandson, Kole.
Todd Preston is a graduate of Wheelersburg High School, attended Marshall University, and has a degree from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. Todd has been a licensed funeral director and embalmer for 15 years and is married to Jill Williams Preston. She is a graduate of Wheelersburg High School and Morehead State University. Jill is employed at the Southern Ohio Medical Center and is a non-licensed funeral director. They have one son, Tanner.
