Virginia Leightenheimer

December 31, 1923 — July 31, 2021

Virginia “Ginny” (Carmen) Leightenheimer, age 97, passed away on Saturday, July 31, 2021, at Hillview Retirement Center.

Born on New Year’s Eve, 1923, in South Bend, Indiana, she was a World War II bride, stay at home Mom, a volunteer with the PTA and band boosters, a Sunday school teacher at Bigelow United Methodist Church, Cub Scout and Boy Scout den mother, and donation volunteer for the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society.

Virginia was a proud mother and grandmother, who invested the majority of her time and energy in her family.  She also had a keen sense of humor and a kind word for everyone that crossed her path.

Her other interests included reading, bird watching, music, being the #1 fan of the Oak Ridge Boys, classic films, and watching the Cincinnati Reds and Ohio State Buckeye football.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, George and Loleta Carmen, husband, William E. Leightenheimer, a son, Thomas E. Leightenheimer, a granddaughter, Sarah Ruth Leightenheimer, and siblings Lola, Helen, Bernice, Kenneth, Owen, and Richard.

She is survived by three sons, William (Barbara), Alan (Mary), and James (Beth), daughter-in-law, Katie, eleven grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Ginny’s Life will be held at noon on Wednesday, August 4th, at the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN SCIOTOVILLE with Pastor John Gowdy officiating.  Interment will be in Memorial Burial Park.

The family will receive guests at Brant’s after 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday.

Memorial gifts may be made to SOMC Hospice.

The family requests masks by worn.
