Carolyn Johnson

November 2, 1931 — August 5, 2021

Carolyn June Johnson, 89, of Portsmouth, passed away on Thursday, August 5, 2021, in Orlando, Florida.  Born on November 2, 1931 in Sciotoville, she was a daughter of the later Paul and Mary Catherine Pettit Jones.

After attending North Moreland Elementary, she graduated from East High School.  Following graduation, she worked at Williams Manufacturing Co. and later in food service for the Portsmouth City Schools for 20 years.  Carolyn was involved in the American Legion Post #23, Eagles, and her lifelong passion was roller skating, riding her bike and making people laugh.

While in Orlando, she attended Liberty Baptist Church.

Also preceding her in death were her brothers, Richard, William, Paul Jr. and Frank, along with her sisters, Lorena and Catherine.

Surviving are her children, Rhonda (Kenny) Powell of Minford, Cathy Moore of Portsmouth, Deborah (Dan) Yossett of Orlando, Joseph Johnson of Naples, Fla., Jeffrey Johnson of Portsmouth and James Johnson of Portsmouth; grandchildren, Amy (Fred Lester) Hall, Nina (Chris) Ramey, Brian (Angie) Powell, Isac (Cheyenne Evans) Moore, Kevin (Heather) Welty, Kristie (Michael Ramey) Toruno, Richard “Keith” (Tia) Welty, Chelsea (Adam) Keller, Jared (Emily) Johnson, Alex Johnson, Sydney, Johnson, Austin Johnson, Cameron Libby, Samantha Johnson, Jessica Bourisseau, Jason Harris and Alyssa Johnson; a brother, Angus (Laura) Jones; twenty-eight great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 13th, at the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN SCIOTOVILLE with Dave Duncan officiating.  Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Franklin Furnace.

The family will receive guests at Brant’s from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.

The family strongly requests that masks be worn during visitation and the funeral service.

Carolyn’s loved ones wish to extend their sincere “Thank You” to the doctors, nurses and staff of Orlando Regional Medical Center and a special “thanks” to Vitas Healthcare of Orlando.
