Carol Neal

July 3, 1950 — January 22, 2022

Carol Lynn Neal of Wheelersburg, passed away peacefully from this earth and into the arms of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, on January 22, 2022 with her family by her bedside. She was the daughter of the late Donald H. and Doris Fannin and was born on July 3, 1950 at Mercy Hospital in Portsmouth. She grew up in the small town of New Boston, where everyone knows your name and family. She was joined in marriage with James “Ron” Neal on April 9, 1977 in New Boston.

She is survived by her loving and very devoted husband, Ron, a daughter, Jamie Jo Courtney of Wheelersburg, a son, James R. Neal of West Portsmouth, a granddaughter, Kylie Jo Vastine, two grandsons, Kole Vastine and Zach Neal, her sisters, Phyllis Thoroughman (Doug) of Portsmouth, Deborah Smart (Joe) of Chillicothe, Sandra (Steve) Tyree of West Liberty, KY

KY, and Colleen (Robert) Payton of Sandy Hook, KY, brothers, Donald Fannin (Tina) and Danny Fannin (Stephanie) of West Liberty, KY, her brothers-in law, Harold “Shorty” and Jean Neal of Portsmouth, Larry Ray (Sharon) Neal of Minford and Tim (Myra)Neal of McDermott; two very special friends, Edie Kallas and Erecka Mader and a host of nieces and nephews and great- nieces and great-nephew.

Also preceding Carol in death were her grandparents, Bessie and Harlan Fannin and

Oscar and Lillian Fannin, two special aunts, Reva and Geneva Fannin, her brother-in-law Donald Thoroughman, her father-in-law and mother-in law, Harold and Belle Neal, and her brothers-in-law, Dennis Neal and Mike Neal.

Carol was a 1968 graduate of Glenwood High School in New Boston. She worked in the registration and billing departments of the Southern Ohio Medical Center, retiring with 26 years of service. Carol loved the Lord and loved spending time with her precious family. She also loved to play bingo and loved to watch game shows on television with her family, and her shopping trips with Kylie. She and Ron especially loved spending time with Shorty and Jean. Jean was absolutely wonderful to Carol when they visited her and Shorty. Jean always had a warm blanket ready for Carol when they came down and was so good to Carol. Carol will be missed greatly by all of her loved ones and friends. Carol was such an incredible lady, who was loved by many people.

A service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 26th, at the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN SCIOTOVILLE with Pastor Mike Gifford officiating.  Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive guests at Brant’s from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Carol’s family requests that masks be worn for visitation and the funeral service.

The family wishes to thank the staffs of ICU and the Orthopedic Unit at SOMC for their loving care and kindness during her time of illness.
