Steven Emory Payne

Steven Emory Payne, 72, went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, with his family and pastor by his bedside.  Born on November 16, 1950, he was a son of the late Raymond and Frieda Brown Payne and was an engineer, designing coal mining equipment for J.H. Fletcher Inc. for 49 years.  Steve drove to the Huntington/Barboursville area each and every day. 

Steve was a faithful member of Faith Baptist Church in Wheelersburg, where he was a Sunday school teacher for over 56 years.  He was currently the church treasurer.  A 1968 graduate of Clay High School and a graduate of Ohio University with a master’s degree, he was a former member of Clay Local School board.

Surviving is his wife, Barbara “Bobbie” Weakland Payne, a son, Robert (Jody) Payne of Portsmouth, a brother, Stuart (Anita) Payne of Portsmouth and a grandson, Zachary Payne.

A Celebration of Steve’s Life will be held on Saturday, November 18th at 1:00 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church with Pastor Bryan White officiating.  Interment will be in Rosemount Cemetery.

The family will receive guests at the church from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Faith Baptist Church in Wheelersburg, OH.
