Ruth Jacobs

Ruth Jacobs, 88, formerly of Portsmouth, died Saturday, April 30, 2011, at Springfield Masonic Community. Born January 22, 1923 in Portsmouth, she was a daughter of the late William and Ruby Ashley Charles, and was a retired staff officer for National City Bank with 30 years of service. Also preceding her in death were brothers Franklin, Gilbert and James Charles and sisters Nellie Halcomb and Mary Brammer. Surviving are her husband, Edward N. Jacobs, Sr., a son, Edward (Donna) Jacobs, Jr. of Chesapeake, VA; 3 grandchildren, Tracy MacDonald, Christine (Scott) Smith and Jason Jacobs; and 4 great-grandchildren, Haley and Jacob Smith, and Bailey and Jessica MacDonald. A Celebration of Life will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Brant Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Rev. Peter Michael officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Burial Park. The family will receive friends at Brant’s in Portsmouth 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday.Memorial contribtutions may be made to the Salvation Army.
