Roy “Harold” Cunningham, 82, of Portsmouth (Slocum Station) went home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 29, 2025. He was born on June 13, 1943 in South Webster. For those who knew him, Harold truly was one of a kind. Harold had a remarkable passion and knowledge of the Bible and could recite scripture at any given opportunity. He got the most enjoyment from witnessing to all who knew him and sharing stories from the Bible. He never missed an opportunity to share the Word and his love for Jesus. One of his favorite scriptures was Acts 2:38 “Then Peter said unto them, Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” No matter what your conversation was about Harold would always leave you with this verse, and he would have wanted to share this with you now. His two biggest passions in life were Jesus and circle track racing. Harold spent 18 years at Detroit Steel in New Boston until it shut down and then went to work as an electrician for CSX in Huntington, WV where he retired in 2010. In his spare time, he was a hobby machinist, welder and fabricator. He was passionate about improving the current racecar technologies by inventing and modifying different racing parts. He is survived by his children Jeffrey Gene Cunningham of Franklin Furnace, Serena “Keri” (Cunningham) Thompson of Sciotoville, Christopher “Tate” Cunningham of Columbus and Tony Gruber of Columbus, four grandchildren Tyler Craigmiles, Paityn Breech, Ashley “Michal” Cunningham, Riley Jenna Cunningham, and four great grandchildren Orion, Keilani, Tristan and Xylan. One sister Judy (Cunningham) Hanes of South Webster. He was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Lydia “Lydie” Cunningham of South Webster, sisters Jean (Cunningham) Kelley, Shirley (Cunningham) Martin, Betty (Cunningham) Ramey, Sharon Kay Cunningham and one brother William “Dale” Cunningham.
