Raymond D. Boyd, 88, of Wheelersburg, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at SOMC Hospice Center surrounded by his family.  Born on February 3, 1935, in Sciotoville, he was a son of the late Roy and Tanie Haggard Boyd and was a former computer programmer for the City of Portsmouth.

Ray was a long-time attendee at Porter Free Will Baptist Church and was employed at Detroit Steel Corporation for 28 years. Famous for playing tennis, he and his friend, John Grimm, established the Portsmouth Road Race.   Ray will be remembered as a cross country coach at East High School, earning him the name of “Sir Rayme.”  He was an avid runner, and most recently enjoyed pickle ball.  A proud U.S. Army veteran, Ray served his country during the Korean War.

Also preceding him in death were a daughter, Julie Johnson, who died in 2016, a son-in-law, Mark Chumley and a sister, Mary E. Adkins.

Surviving is his wife, Naomi Craft Boyd, a daughter, Bethany Boyd Chumley of Dublin; two grandchildren, Caitlin (Oleg) Yarovinski and Alex Johnson, a special great-granddaughter, Charlotte Yarovinski and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Ray’s Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 1st, at the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN SCIOTOVILLE with Pastor Mark Price officiating.  Interment will be in Memorial Burial Park with military honors by the James Erwin Post #622 and William Baker Post #363 of the American Legion.

The family will receive guests at Brant’s from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Salvation Army.

The American flags, along with the U.S. Army flag, will fly on the avenue for our proud veteran, Ray Boyd.
