Peggy Counts

Peggy Counts, 81, of Portsmouth, died on April 16, 2012 in Springboro, Ohio of natural causes. Born Margaret Ann Crowe on October 16, 1930 in Portsmouth, OH, she was the youngest child of James Martin Crowe and Margaret Rose Lordier. Her siblings were Mary Crowe, Marcella Hall, Clara Stebick, Bernard Crowe, James Crowe, Richard Crowe, Alberta Crowe, and Eileen Mills. She was married to Bernard Vaughn Counts from 1949 to 1972 and had 8 children. She was an employee of SOMC for 30 years, retiring from the Volunteer Dept. in 1999. She was known for her beautiful smile, cheerful attitude, and unsinkable sense of humor.
Peggy was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed by her children Sharon Tubb, Rick & Charlene Counts, Lynn Counts, Dr. Gail Counts, Cathy Strickland & Brian Gahm, David & Michell Counts, and Dr. Holly Counts & Shana Van Hoose; 11 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by Bernard Counts, longtime partner Paul Blaine, son Bernard Counts Jr., her parents, her son-in-law Dr. Robert Tubb, and all of her siblings.
A gathering will be held on Sunday, April 22 from 3:00-5:00pm at the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN PORTSMOUTH. A Memorial Mass will be at 6:00 p.m. Sunday at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Portsmouth, Ohio with Father Dwayne McNew as celebrant. All are welcome to attend a memorial dinner at the church following the mass. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bernard Counts, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Scioto Foundation, 303 Chillicothe St., Portsmouth, Ohio 45662 or Sierra’s Haven Animal Shelter, 80 Easter Drive, Portsmouth, Ohio 45662.
