Norma Jean Smith

Norma Jean Smith, 89, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, from the SOMC emergency room. Born on May 20, 1933 in Portsmouth, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Ernest George Burton and Grace Ramey Burton and was employed at the former Williams Manufacturing Co.

Norma’s greatest enjoyment was being a member of the Apostolic Brethren Church in West Portsmouth.  She loved going to her church and reading the Bible every day.

Also preceding her in death were her husband, Donald Lee Smith, a son, Dan Tipton; and two brothers, Ernest Burton, Jr. and Harold Burton.

Surviving are a son, Rick (Pam) Smith of Portsmouth; three sisters, Rosalee Johnson and Polly (Buddy) Cole, all of Portsmouth and Thelma (Harry) Wallace of MI; two grandchildren, Danny Tipton and Donnie (Kelley) Smith and four great-grandchildren, Rikki Smith, Taylor Tipton, Danny Lee Tipton, and Joe Tipton.

A Celebration of Norma’s Homegoing will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 24th, at the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN SCIOTOVILLE with Pastor Randy Schintzius officiating.  Interment will be in Bennett Cemetery in Minford.

The family will receive guests at Brant’s from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
