Mary Shipley

Mary Magdalene Shipley, 94, of Portsmouth, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, February 11, 2012, at Heartland of Portsmouth. Born September 12, 1917 in Knoxville, TN, she was a daughter of Burt Burns and Mac and Minnie Anderson McDuff. Mary was retired from the dietary department at the Southern Ohio Medical Center with 20 years of service, and a member of High Praises Church of God in North Moreland. Preceding her in death were her husband, James Robert Shipley, who died September 30, 1982, a daughter, Barbara Jean Mingoue, and twins boys, James and Robert Shipley. Surviving are a daughter, Sandra (Larry) Hammond of Portsmouth, 4 grandchildren, Rosemarie Chanti, Jonathon Chanti, Tonya (John) Sapp, and Chad (Robin) Hammond, 6 great-grandchildren, Morgan Wisener, Jonathan Royster, Wil Hammond, Beau Hammond, Chase Sapp and Courtney Sapp, and a great-great-grandson, Charlie Sapp. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN PORTSMOUTH with Rev. Larry Hammond and Rev. Sam Salyer officiating. Interment will be in Scioto Burial Park. The family will receive friends at Brant’s in Portsmouth 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday and one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to SOMC Hospice.
