Mary Jane Patterson, a cherished soul of 92 years, peacefully left this world on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at The Courtyard at Wheelersburg to be with her Lord and Savior. She was born on February 7, 1933, to the late George F. and Gladys McCoy Eden.
In this time of sorrow, we pause to honor and celebrate the life of Mary Jane Patterson, a devoted servant of the Lord whose heart overflowed with compassion and love for others. Mary lived her life as a testimony of God’s grace, faithfully serving those around her with a joyful spirit and generous hands.
Mary had a deep love for the Lord and was known for her constant quoting of Scripture, drawing strength and wisdom from God’s Word. Her faith was the foundation of everything she did—from feeding and housing missionaries, to serving alongside other women in the church during times of need. Whether visiting the sick and shut-in or delivering a warm meal or dessert, Mary’s acts of kindness reflected Christ’s love.
She had a unique and spirited personality—you always knew where you stood with Mary—but even more so, you saw the sincerity of her giving heart. She was a woman who lived out her faith daily, loving God and loving people.
Though we grieve her loss, we take comfort in knowing that Mary has entered into the joy of her Lord, hearing the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Her legacy of faith, service, and love will live on in all who were blessed to know her.
Mary dedicated much of her professional life as a bookkeeper for Marting's Department Store, where her meticulous nature and warm spirit touched many lives. A proud 75-year member of Berean Baptist Church, she found comfort and strength in her faith. Additionally, her involvement with the National Secretaries Association showcased her commitment to her profession and community.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack Patterson, along with her brother, George Fred Eden, Jr., and her three sisters: Betty Walls, Stella Montgomery, and Gladys Annetta Reed, and stepson, Robert Patterson.
Mary's legacy lives on through her loving family, including her daughter Vicky (Michael) Martin of Hurricane, WV and daughter-in-law, Denise Patterson of Rosemount. She was a proud grandmother to four grandchildren: Nichole (Matthew) DeVaney, April Green, Leslie (Timothy) Buckley, and Courtney (Darren) LeBrun, ten great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter and one great-great granddaughter due in January. Mary also leaves behind several cherished nieces and nephews and.
