Kathryn Evans

Kathryn L. Evans , 83, of Sciotoville, passed on Friday, August 2, 2013 at the SOMC Hospice Center.  Born on June 5, 1930 in Portsmouth, she was a daughter of the late George and Mary Elizabeth Simon Lantz, and was co-owner of the former Corner Market in Sciotoville and Evans Super Market in Clarktown.  Kathryn was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church, the Over 55 Club at St. Peter’s, former volunteer for Meals on Wheels, belonged to a canasta club, and enjoyed making ceramics.  Also preceding her in death 35 days ago was her husband of 61 years, David C. Evans.  Surviving are two sons, Michael Scot Evans of Sciotoville and Joseph Mark (Jennifer) Evans of Portsmouth, two daughters, Kathiann (Rick) Felts of Knoxville, TN and Jani Marie (Bryan) Sturgell of Wheelersburg, three grandchildren, Brian (Lucia) Evans of TX, Matthew David Evans, proudly serving in the U.S. Navy in Jacksonville, Fla, and Mark Anthony Evans of Portsmouth, a great-grandson, Mason Joseph Evans of Portsmouth and five step-grandchildren, Billy Tolle, Courtney Wynkopp, Brian Felts, Kyle Felts, Derrick Pernell and Amber Pernell and a special “granddaughter”, Nicole Payton.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Peter’s in Chains Catholic Church with Fr. Joseph Yokum officiating.  Interment will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN SCIOTOVILLE from 4 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday.  Recitation of the Rosary will be at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.  Memorial contributions may be made to SOMC Hospice.  To offer condolences visit www.brantfuneralservice.com.
