James Arthur Vallance, 89

We bid our beloved father farewell on Monday morning, October 29, 2018, in our home, where he passed over Jordan’s stormy banks into God’s tender mercy and into his deceased wife and daughter’s arms.

James Arthur Vallance was born on July 15, 1929 to the late James and Mable Grose Vallance and was also preceded in death by his wife, Janet Ruth Tomlin Vallance, a daughter, Cindy Sheets and four brothers, Tom, Bob, Donnie and David Vallance.

Surviving are a brother, John Vallance, and sister-in-law, Gretchen Williams; two sons, James (Vickie) Vallance of West Portsmouth and David (Kathy) Vallance of Powell, TN; a son-in-law, Larry Sheets of Portsmouth; three daughters, Barbara (Bryan) Miller of Portsmouth, Carolyn (Kurt) Sissler of Portsmouth and Gina (Jeff) Stevens of Salisbary, NC; fourteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Jim was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Ashland, KY; was a retired metallurgist at Empire Detroit Steel Corp. and was retired as store manager at Deemer’s Super Market with 20 years of service.  Jim graduated from East High School in 1948 and was a proud Marine veteran, served during the Korean War.

He will be sadly missed by all who loved him and knew him.  “As a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him”.  Psalms 103:13

A service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 3rd in the Edgewood Abbey Mausoleum with Pastor Dennis Miles officiating.  Interment will be in Memorial Burial Park with military honors by the James Dickey Post of the American Legion.  A funeral procession will leave the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN SCIOTOVILLE at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.

The Flags on the Avenue will fly in honor of brave Marine veteran Jim Vallance.

A special thanks goes to the folks at the United Scioto Senior Adult Day Care Center, especially Frances Meguire, Judy Smith and Jamie Williams.  Jim attended the day care center and enjoyed the activities, music and all the special friends he came to know.
