Obituary

Gareth Lee Bussa, age 96, of Portsmouth and longtime resident of Sciotoville, peacefully passed away at home on Saturday, June 13, 2026. Born on December 11, 1929, in Sciotoville, he was the beloved son of the late Herbert Lee and Marie Carol Dever Bussa.

Gary was a devoted member of Sciotoville Christian Church throughout his life, faithfully serving as a Deacon for many years. He dedicated 37 years of service as a Conductor with the Norfolk and Southern Railroad. Additionally, he proudly served his country as an Army Veteran for two years.

He was married to Carol Conklin Bussa and is lovingly remembered by his son, David Lee Bussa (Jon); daughters Leanne Marie Crandall (Jeff) and Susan Bender (Stan); and his cherished grandchildren Ashley Crane (TJ), Allison Bender (fiancé Kyle Gattrell), Heather Timberlake-Evans (Caleb), and Gareth Lee Bussa (Kelsey). Gary was also a proud great-grandfather to Dylynn Timberlake, Alexander Bonilla, Jagger Evans, Cash Evans, Brooks Bussa, and Hayes Bussa. He is survived by his brother Herbert Duane Bussa (Eleanor), along with two nieces and three nephews.

Gary was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred “Midge” Bussa, his brother Richard “Dick” Bussa, and his sister Linda Abbott.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at Brant Funeral Home in Sciotoville, with Elder Brian Enz officiating. Friends may pay their respects on Tuesday, June 16, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Memorial Burial Park.

The family would like to express a special thank you to Jerry and Carlene Shaffer, Lois Dunham and Kayla Taulbee for their wonderful care.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project and SOMC Hospice. Gary’s enduring faith, dedicated service, and loving family will forever be remembered and cherished.
