Dr. Owen Bruce Martin, DDS, 65, of Granville, died Sunday, July 3, 2016, at 12:17 a.m. at Court House Manor, where he had been a resident the past month.
Born on July 15, 1950 in Portsmouth, he was a son of the late Roy and Doris Moorhead Martin. Following his graduation in 1968 at valedictorian from East High School, he studied at Ohio University Portsmouth branch and at The Ohio State University. Bruce then attended the College of Dentistry at Ohio State, where graduated in 1975 with a degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery.
He practiced as a general dentist in Washington Court House until 1990, at which time he re-located to Granville, where he practiced until his retirement in 2014.
In 1982, Dr. Martin was appointed to the Ohio State Dental Board and served as president in 1986 and 1987. He taught in the crown and bridge department of The Ohio State Dental College and was active in the dental alumni and fraternity affairs for many years. Dr. Martin was a member of the American and Ohio Dental Associations and other local dental societies.
Surviving are three sons, Robert Martin and Andy Martin, both of Albuquerque, NM and John Martin of Indianapolis; three brothers, Simeon (Patricia) Martin and David Martin, all of Sciotoville and Dr. Douglas (Patti) Martin of Washington Court House and three nephews and two nieces.
In keeping with his request, cremation has taken place.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on July 23rd at the Holiday Inn Little Opal Room located at 711 2nd Street, Portsmouth, OH.
