Dorothy Smith

August 10, 1926 — May 9, 2015

Dorothy Lucille Scheid Smith, 88, of Sciotoville, died Saturday, May 9, 2015 at the Hill View Retirement Center.  She was born August 10, 1926 in Portsmouth to the late Henry and Flossie Danner Scheid.  Dorothy was a 1944 graduate of Portsmouth High School, a graduate of Portsmouth Interstate Business College, and was retired from the Standard-General Supply Company as a purchasing agent.  Dorothy was a member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church and a 50 year member of the Wheelersburg Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star.  She loved music and loved to sing.  She was a 19 year cancer survivor.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Ray “Red Bill” Smith, on July 4, 1995, whom she married February 17, 1951 at the EUB Church in Portsmouth.  Also preceding her in death were an infant son, Lawrence Ricahrd; brothers, Kenneth, Louis, and Albert Scheid; and sisters, Adeline Warner, Pauline Scheid, and Betty Joan Robinson.

Dorothy is survived by a daughter, Paula (Anthony) Sturgeon of Wheelersburg; the apples of her eye, grandsons, Dr. Aaron Matthew (Amalia) Sturgeon of Cincinnati and Richard Andrew Sturgeon of Wheelersburg; and her beloved canine friends, Wicket and and Yodi.

Per her request, private funeral services will be held with Rev. Greg Carter officiating with interment in Memorial Burial Park.
