Betty Hamilton

August 19, 1925 — March 12, 2015

Betty Jane Hamilton, 89, of Portsmouth, died Thursday, March 12, 2015 at the Southern Ohio Medical Center.  Born on August 19, 1925 in Athens County, she was a daughter of the late Clyde and Jennie Covert Smith and was a member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women.

Betty Jane was also a member of Scioto County Homemakers, Green Triangle Garden Club, SOMC Service Guild, SOMC Pleasure Guild, R.S.V.P., the Red Hat Society and was a Red Cross volunteer.

Also preceding her in death were her husband, Harold Eugene Hamilton, one stepson, Donald Hamilton, one brother, Edgar Smith and two sisters, Emma Jean and Donna Jean.

Surviving are one son, Harold “Dave” (Elsa) Hamilton of Royal Oak, MI; one daughter, Diana (Jim) Musick of Portsmouth; two sisters, Juanita Ball of Louisburg, NC and Shelby Powell of Portsmouth; “Meme’s” special grandchildren, Tracy (Alan) Lindner, Brandi (Jim) Stedding, Jamie (David) Blower, Jennie Hamilton, Andrew (Ashley) Hamilton, Alex Hamilton and Matt Hamilton; and special great-grandchildren, Bryce Hill, Madison Sowards, Christopher and Jason Stedding, Kristian Gerwig, Tatem and Brock Lindner, and Caleigh and Ethan Blower.  Survivors also include several nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 16th, at the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN SCIOTOVILLE with Rev. Tom Charles and Rev. Greg Carter officiating.  Interment will be in Memorial Burial Park.

The family will receive guests at Brant’s from noon until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday and one hour prior to the service on Monday.  Memorial contributions may be made to Cornerstone United Methodist Church.
