Harold R. Ockerman, 75, of Sciotoville, died Monday, March 8, 2010, at Cabell-Huntington Hospital. Born March 6, 1935 in Wheelersburg, he was a son of the late Walter P. and Marie Benson Ockerman, and was a member of Berean Baptist Church. Harold retired from Martin-Marietta with 22 years of service, and was employed at the former Williams Manufacturing Co. with 21 years of service. Surviving are his wife, Mary Smith Ockerman, a son, Richard A. Ockerman of Walkerton, IN; a daughter, Margaret (Jerry) Claxon of Tippecanoe, IN; sisters, Marcella Winters and Georgia Ockerman, both of Portsmouth and Karol Sue Dummit of Columbus; grandchildren, Sarah Bussler, Mary Ruth Hayes, Melissa Koch, Katie Claxon, Erin Holston, Adam Ockerman, Walter Ockerman and Nathan Ockerman, and 12 great-grandchildren. Also preceding him in death were a son, Steven Ockerman, a brother, Bobby Ockerman and a sister, Lucille Drake. A funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at the Brant Funeral Home in Sciotoville with Pastor Seth Waggoner officiating. Interment will be in Wheelersburg Cemetery. Friends may call at Brant’s in Sciotoville from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.





Naomi Kelley, 88, of Wheelersburg, died Friday, March 5, 2010, in Grant Hospital in Columbus. Born March 14, 1921, in Portsmouth, she was a daughter of the late William Bradley and Sarah Ann King Bradley and was one of Jehovah's Witnesses. Also preceding Naomi in death were her husband, Don Kelley; a brother, Jack Bradley; and sisters, Mary Johnson, Edith Howell and Doris Roberts. Surviving are a son, Mark (Terry) Kelley of Wheelersburg; a daughter, Gretchen Madden of Wheelersburg; and grandchildren, Eric Madden, Brandee (Dwayne) Franklin, Todd Kelley and Adam (Elizabeth) Kelley. A funeral service will be 1 p.m. on Tuesday at the Brant Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Scott Literal officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at Brant's in Portsmouth from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday.





William "Bill" Evans, 93, of Portsmouth, went to be with the Lord, on Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at the SOMC Hospice Center, after a long illness. He was born on August 24, 1916, in Portsmouth, to the late William Evans and Grace Dever Evans Mershon. Bill was a long time businessman in Lucasville and Waverly, from 1947 until 1997, doing business as Evans Auto Sales and Trail Auto Parts. Surviving are his wife, Ruth Kuhn Evans, whom he married on January 20, 1947, two sons, William Edison Evans of West Valley City, Utah and Rev. Timothy Blane (Dana) Evans of Lancaster, one daughter, Caroline (Don) Thompson of Portsmouth, one sister, Catherine Tovine of Portsmouth, grandchildren, Brian Thompson of Portsmouth, Kevin (Kristin) Thompson of Lucasville, and Bethanie Evans of Lancaster, two step-grandchildren, Daniel (Jessie) Cook and Sommer (Warren) Goldman, all of San Antonio, TX, seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by one stepbrother, Charles Mershon, two sisters, Mildred Kemper and Mary Jane "Tiny" Schackart. A graveside service will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Scioto Burial Park with Rev. Timothy B. Evans, officiating. The family will receive friends at the Brant Funeral Home in Portsmouth from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to the SOMC Hospice.
